Tim Skelton
Dorset Probation Trust Board Chair


Tim Skelton joined Dorset Probation Trust in May 2011 as Chair.  He is currently a Non Executive Director of an NHS Trust in Oxfordshire and is a Panel Chair for the Judicial Appointments Commission. The NHS Trust provides services for people with Learning Disabilities, a new contract for supported living has just been awarded to the Trust for residents in Dorset. The work with the Judicial Appointments Commission involves chairing selection panels for new judicial holders.  He retired from full time work with the NHS in 2009. He was Chief Executive of various NHS Trusts including Salisbury Hospital and more recently a Board Director of the South West Strategic Health Authority. Prior to his time with the NHS he spent 10 years with Whitbread operating pubs and restaurants.  With a degree in Agriculture Economics he spent the first 10 years of his career running farms for the Cooperative Wholesale Society.


Paul Bompas
Dorset Probation Trust Vice Chair


Paul Bompas is a retired Chief Superintendent of Dorset Police, having been the Divisional Commander of both Poole and Bournemouth Divisions. During his 33 years service he worked throughout the county both in uniform, C.I.D, Commercial Branch and other specialist departments.

He was awarded the QPM in the New Year Honours 2002.

After attending Wolfson College, University of Cambridge, and undertaking postgraduate studies, he graduated in 1992 from the Joint Services Defence College at Greenwich being one of only a few police officers nationally who has undertaken such senior military training. In 1996 he was seconded to the John Jay College of Criminal Justice, City University of New York, as a "Visiting Professor", lecturing on comparative police studies and the sociology of law. In New York, he worked with the criminal justice agencies in NYC, including the Manhattan Midtown Community Court.

Following his retirement, he was appointed to the National Probation Service, Dorset Board in March 2004. He was a founding member of Dorset Race Equality Council and leads on matters of diversity and equality on the Board. As well as sitting on the board, he attends the Audit, JNCC and Diversity Working Group. He is also the Board member link for SFO Reviews and Programmes.

Other recent positions have included Non Executive Director of Poole Primary Care Trust until its cessation in September 2006; Non-Legal Member of the Asylum and Immigration Tribunal, hearing appeals in respect of asylum or immigration applications and against deportation decisions; a Lay Member (Employer Panel) of the Employment Tribunal, and a Lay Member of the General Medical Council’s “Fitness to Practise” Panel. He is a school governor, chairing numerous committees.



Lesley Anne Randell Turner
Dorset Probation Trust Board Member

Lesley-Anne Randell-Turner was appointed as a board member in April 2007.

She has 20 years experience working in a leading Financial Services Company. The majority of her career was spent as a Senior Project Manager. She managed a team of Project Managers/Analysts and was responsible for implementing multiple strategic objectives. She has managed high profile projects with budgets up to £3,000,000 and has worked with many international companies. She has also held positions of Secretary and Treasurer for a cricket club and more recently has been working as an external exam invigilator.

Lesley regularly works on a voluntary basis in her son’s school and is an active member of the Parent and Teacher Association helping to organise many events through the school year to raise valuable extra revenue. Just appointed as school governor. About to begin work on a project with the Probation Association.


Mike Ashley
Dorset Probation Trust Board Member

Mike Ashley was appointed as a member of the board in April 2007. Mike currently runs his own company that specialises in Language, Translation and Training solutions to UK and overseas business. He also works as a freelance consultant on specific Government led educational and training initiatives.

Prior to this he worked in Further Education for 16 years where he held teaching and senior management posts but also has commercial management experience gained in other business environments.

Mike has an Honours Degree in Sport Science and Business and a Master Degree in Education and Professional Development.



Marcia Headon
Dorset Probation Trust Board Member

Marcia Headon is a retired Her Majesty’s Inspector of Schools, having been the Regional Director of Ofsted for the South of England. During this time she was responsible for the inspection arrangements for schools, learning and skills, teacher training institutions and children’s social care including secure children’s homes and training centres. As such she was responsible for the multi- million pound contracts which Ofsted held with the service providers for inspection.

Before becoming an HMI Marcia was a headteacher in two large secondary schools in Dorset and prior to this worked in schools in Somerset, Cornwall and Devon. She has worked for the Teacher Development Agency, developing and leading training for headteachers. 

She holds a degree in Medieval and Modern History from the University of Liverpool and a Master’s degree in Educational Research. She is a school governor and chairs a number of committees.
