Drug Rehabilitation Requirement (DRR)
This is a court order which combines drug treatment, drug testing and weekly supervision with a probation officer. Offenders suitable for a DRR have a history of drug use, have tried to get off drugs in the past without success, want to stop using drugs and are prepared to have treatment and regular drug tests.
A DRR can last from six months to three years. Offenders see their probation officer once a week. They also attend a drug treatment agency up to five days a week and have a drug test twice a week. They go back to court every month for a progress report
Alcohol Intervention
As required, Dorset Probation Area will refer individual offenders to Brief Interventions for their alcohol use. This will follow the use of an Alcohol Screening Form to identify a need.
The target group of drinkers are defined as ‘hazardous’ or ‘harmful’ drinkers who reside either in Bournemouth and Poole or Dorset County. The ‘hazard’ and ‘harm’ are defined as follows:-
‘Hazardous’ – Women who drink more than 14 units per week but less than 34
Men who drink more than 22 units per week but less than 49
‘Harmful’ – Women who drink more than 35 units per week
Men who drink more than 50 units per week
The target group is therefore aimed at non-dependant individuals and the focus of Brief Interventions work is on alcohol awareness and strategies which aim to target potential problem drinkers at an early stage before they become dependant or before they develop serious health problems. The attendee can be seen up to three times by the Brief Interventions worker and will be assessed in terms of their levels of drinking, the patterns of their drinking and will be provided with information in relation to any physiological or psychological affects of alcohol consumption. Motivation interviewing strategies will be use to affect some early change in behaviours from individuals who are either ‘hazardous’ or drinking at ‘harmful’ levels.
